Alla Verlotsky

Alla Verlotsky was born in Kiev, Ukraine. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the Moscow State University, and a bachelor's degree in Central Asian and African film study from the Russian State Institute of Cinematography, VGIK.

She moved to the United States in 1991. After working as the freelance curator in 1999 she founded Seagull Films, New York based company that provides quality programming and distribution for art, independent and innovative cinema, both classic and contemporary.

A unique player in the foreign film market, Seagull Films was formed in 1999 with the goal to provide quality independent programming/distribution for international cinema. The company gained critical acclaim due to its creative and unconventional strategies through carefully curated thematic showcases and celebrated individual titles.

In over a decade of intense work, Seagull Films has presented hundreds of titles at highly reputable art houses, cinémathèques, film societies, museums, art centers and festivals.
The company's circuit includes international film festivals worldwide as well as premiering North American and European venues such as the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York, Toronto IFF Bell Lightbox, the National Gallery of Arts, Austrian and Danish Film Museums, Harvard Films Archive, Australian Museum of the Moving Image and The Film Society of San Francisco among many others. In addition to programming and distribution, Seagull Films provides services assisting independent filmmakers/producers to position their films, providing festivals placement (worldwide), marketing and niche distribution.
The latest projects include LOUVERTURE FILMS "Shenandoah" by David Turnley (USA), "Highway" by Deepak Raunyar (Nepal) and "The Disappearance of McKinley Nolan" by Henry Corra (USA). Seagull Films has a strong commitment to making social/cultural/educational impact on a global scale. The company participated and designed a number of socially conscious film projects, to name a few: "United we Stand: Cinema of the Apartheid Era" and "After Exodus: Films of the Black Jewish Diaspora".

Even in the changing distribution landscape, the company continues to preserve artists work through restoration and has shown a commitment to exhibiting films on a big screen in the form envisioned by the creators.

Ms. Verlotsky was an associate producer for Russian Ark, the award-winning film by internationally acclaimed director Alexander Sokurov, and is currently producing the feature documentary "Red Fantasies" by the Academy Award Winning Special Effects Artists Robert Skotak. She serves as an advisor to numerous international film initiatives & film festivals, lectures, and holds workshops on creative distribution and co-production.
Ms. Verlotsky is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian, English, and fairly proficient at French.
